A U.S. Army Captain plans to take the world record from her former mentor in April, when she straps on 65 pounds of Kevlar and armor plating to run the fastest mile in a bomb suit.
Army Capt. Kaitlyn Hernandez will attempt to break the women’s world record at the 2nd Bomb Suit Run & Family 5k in Quantico VA on April 3rd 2021. The charity event this year will benefit the Headstrong Project to help them continue in providing free mental health services to veterans. Hernandez was initially scheduled to attempt the record last year, but the event was postponed because of COVID-19 precautions. This years event will happen but will be live streamed as no crowd will be permitted due to COVID-19 protocols.
“When I saw Ashley break the record in Hawaii, I wanted to try it,” Hernandez said. “I’ve always enjoyed a challenge. And this is a chance to push myself, while helping giveback to the EOD community.”
Hernandez will be joined by former Navy Seal Sean Matson, who plans to attempt a men’s record at the event.
We will post an access link to register for the live stream of the event to cheer them on.
